ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
“Bringing Back Community” is an Elijah’s House initiative to bring food and people together to talk about topics that plague their community.
Bringing Back Community is funded by Safe and Peaceful Communities and Sponsored by Afterschool Matters, and Resilience Partners, nfp.
This year we have recruited over 60 teens to participate in our Word Choice Cafe Cooking With Cops sessions.
SUMMER 2022
Thanks to a grant from Safe and Peaceful, Word Choice, this Summer recruited over 60 teens to participate in our Word Choice Cafe Cooking With Cops sessions. Chef Karl Cunningham is back and will join the Program for 6 weeks every Thursday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.
OBJECTIVE
We’ve got the cookin’ thing down to an Art…our next goal is to put the WORD in Word Choice Café.
We're bringing community in our Program by partnering with Chicago Police.

WHAT WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH
Using food as a catalyst to bring people together, our Program will serve as a place to encourage community talks around the table.
Build relationships among urban young people, Chicago Policemen and their communities.
HOW WE SHALL ACCOMPLISH OUR GOAL
The goal is to

Address the needs of community through a series of dialogue that achieve positive outcomes
